On April 27, we’ll be celebrating the impending Kentucky Derby by hosting Michael Smith, a mixology expert, to teach us the history behind this iconic tipple and school us in the subtle techniques that result in a perfect cocktail. You’ll learn all the essential details, and why the quality of ingredients is so critical.

Michael will make two versions of the julep: one the way Teddy Roosevelt did, and one according to William Faulkner’s recipe. You’ll see how the two variations illustrate key nuances of the bartender’s craft.

You’ll be properly prepared for Derby parties, well-equipped to impress your friends with both your skill and knowledge (as far as hats are concerned, you’re on your own). And after class, a feast — the menu will consist of a lavish salad, including cheese and salumi, followed by hearty jambalaya, and then some house-made ice cream.

Join us for some higher education, Dancing Ewe-style. College was never this fun!

What to Expect

We want to make sure your experience is really special so here are a few things you should know:

  • Please wear comfortable shoes you can walk around the farm in. And consider bringing a sweater or jacket, summer evenings at the farm can be cool.
  • We have an amazing selection of hand-selected Italian wines. Except as noted for certain special events one bottle of wine is included per couple, and you’ll have the option to upgrade your wine or add an Italian beer when you arrive.

We’re looking forward to sharing a meal with you!
